Turning a spice brand into a story worth paying more for.
Overview
Soché, a trademark of Le Papillon Boutique Ltd in the UK, sells globally sourced, Rainforest Alliance–aligned spices and salts to home cooks, and bulk ingredients to trade buyers.
As Lead UI/UX Designer at The Impact Engine, I designed its Shopify website: a slow, editorial retail experience for consumers and a sharp, export-grade wholesale experience for businesses, under one brand.
Challenge
Spices were once treasured across civilisations. Today they sit on supermarket shelves as cheap commodities.
The site had to make someone feel the difference before they've tasted it, and then sell the same product to a home cook and to a procurement manager who needs tonnes of it, reliably and compliantly.
Approach
Sell the source, not just the spice. Product pages follow an illustrated journey from the Malabar Coast to the jar, and Our Story is told as chapters, so origin and craft carry the premium.
Proof on the page. A visible quality and compliance protocol, from verified sourcing to lab testing and final QC, backs every claim with a step.
Two registers, one brand. Retail is maroon and editorial. Wholesale gets its own forest-green, export-grade look built on capacity, certifications and specs.
Outcome
soche.co.uk is live on Shopify with the launch collection, Our Story, recipes, wholesale and contact. Key interactions such as the scroll journey were prototyped in code so the build matched the design exactly.
